Free golden hour presets and portrait session kit

Golden Hour Backlight and Golden Hour Open Shade are two original XMP editing starting points for the last part of daylight, before the sun drops. The download also includes a light plan and editing review. The page image is illustrative; it does not show the presets applied.

Make the low sun work for people

Find a safe location with room to move. Place the low sun behind the subject for a warm rim, or use open shade to keep faces evenly lit. Watch for lens flare across eyes and bright gaps through trees. Make the required portraits before the light disappears rather than spending the entire window on a single setup.

Keep warmth believable

Set exposure and white balance first, then use the variant that matches the photograph. Review skin, pale clothing and bright background edges. Sync only frames made in similar light. Golden hour is the time before sunset; use a different approach for afterglow or blue hour. Adobe import and real-photo results remain unverified; test before client delivery.
