Free snowfall and snowflake overlays

This download includes Soft Snowfall, a fine scatter of flakes, and Snowflake Flurry, a more visible seasonal accent. Both are transparent PNGs for layered image editing. The included guides cover placement, masks and final review. The page photograph is illustrative and does not show either overlay applied.

Make the weather believable

Start with an outdoor winter photograph that already supports a snowfall story. Put one PNG on a separate layer and scale it to fit. Reduce opacity, then mask flakes away from eyes, faces and dark details where a bright shape becomes distracting. Snow behind a subject should be softer and smaller than snow close to the camera; use a separate mask if you want that depth.

Review the whole gallery

Check whether the direction and density of the flakes suit the scene. Avoid covering hands or expressions. Zoom out to see the overall balance, then inspect at full size before export. Keep the original photograph and layered working file. A transparent PNG does not change exposure or color and is not a Lightroom preset.
