Free sunset session presets and timing guide

Sunset Sessions Afterglow and Sunset Sessions Blue Hour are two original XMP starting points for portraits made at the transition from warm horizon light to cooler evening light. The download also contains timing, exposure and editing guides. The page photograph is illustrative and does not demonstrate either preset.

Build a short, flexible timeline

Arrive early enough to find safe access, a clean background and a workable path back. Make key portraits before the light disappears. Leave a few minutes for movement and silhouettes after the sun reaches the horizon. If the setting is coastal, check access and changing conditions locally before the session.

Treat each phase of light separately

Set exposure and white balance for a representative frame before applying a preset. Afterglow can protect the sky while opening faces; Blue Hour is for cooler frames after sunset. Do not force both looks across one gallery. Check noise and skin tone as light falls. Adobe import and real-photo visual results remain unverified; test before client use.
